During 1997, McDermott Miller was commissioned by the Wellington
Regional Council to undertake a research project into the social benefits
the community wants from the Region’s transport system.

The Regional Council wanted to expand its knowledge of the regional
community’s social wants from the transport system (eg timely access to
the workplace from home), its relative preferences for meeting those
social wants (eg importance of timely access to the workplace compared
to timely access to shopping) and variations in those preferences
amongst different sections of the community (eg commuters who may
value timely access to the workplace most, but retired people may value
access to leisure most).
