Marine offsetting and compensation – Summary of management guidance and policy
Search in document libraryCoastal development is impacting marine ecosystems and habitats, and leading to cumulative loss of biodiversity. We urgently need a robust, consistent approach to developing packages for marine offsetting and compensation where the effects of activities cannot be fully mitigated. We need tools to assess the value of marine habitats, and to measure the quantum of loss and gain. We also need to continue building our fundamental understanding of reproductive biology and restoration ecology for the numerous species that are under threat from unabating coastal development.
