An investigation of the extent and magnitude of nitrate contamination of
groundwater on the Kapiti Coast was initiated after results of the
Wellington Regional Council (WRC) baseline groundwater quality
monitoring programme indicated the presence of nitrate contamination in
groundwater on the Kapiti Coast. During December 1996 a sampling
programme was undertaken to assess the extent and magnitude of nitrate
contamination in the Waitohu, Otaki, Hautere and Coastal Groundwater
Zones.
