John Hart has been elected as Greater Wellington’s Wairarapa General Constituency Councillor following the completion of the Wairarapa General Constituency by-election.
The by-election was held following the passing of Councillor Adrienne Staples earlier this year. Councillor Hart will represent the Wairarapa General Constituency for the remainder of the 2025-28 triennium.
Greater Wellington Chair Daran Ponter congratulated Councillor Hart on his election.
"John brings extensive experience working with communities, catchment groups, landowners and local government agencies across the region. His knowledge and commitment to the Wairarapa will be a valuable addition to the Council table.
"I would also like to thank all candidates who stood for election and every voter who took part in the democratic process. Strong participation helps ensure local government reflects the communities it serves," adds Cr Ponter.
Councillor Hart has spent the past two years working with communities, catchment groups, landowners, and councils through his role with the Wairarapa Catchment Collective.
He has governance experience across business, community organisations and local government, including chairing the Masterton District Council Climate Advisory Group and co-founding Fab Lab Masterton.
