wairarapabike.org.nz - Wairarapa's new cycling website
A new website aimed at encouraging more people to cycle in Wairarapa goes live today, Monday 16 February 2015.
"www.wairarapabike.org.nz is a one-stop shop for cycling in the Wairarapa," says Rebecca Jamieson, Greater Wellington Regional Council's Sustainable Transport Coordinator based in Masterton.
"The flat, wide roads, relatively low traffic levels and fabulous climate make cycling here easy and fun. We want to encourage and inspire local people and visitors to get around Wairarapa by bike - whether it's biking to work, school, your local café and shops or riding the stunning trails.
A new Wairarapa cycling map, with the latest information about cycle routes, will also be available on the website.
"Cycling is a great way to build exercise into your day without having to think about it, pay for it, or juggle your busy daily routines. And it's good for the environment. Why not bike in Wairarapa?"
"We're particularly keen to encourage people to get back on their bikes or give cycling a try. This website brings together relevant local information - such as where people can get cycle safety training, what kind of lights and hi-viz gear are the best and where to buy them, as well as details of family-friendly Wairarapa bike rides."
Ms Jamieson says hearing about other people who live in your area and cycle can be motivating. "The website will showcase local bike heroes - Wairarapa people who cycle regularly, where they go and why they enjoy it."
The website will be accompanied by a Facebook page. "There'll be posts about upcoming events, relevant news and tips as well as photos and stories about people cycling in Wairarapa. People can ask questions, get answers and chat about cycling and be part of a local, friendly, active cycling community."
"So get on to wairarapabike.org.nz and get on your bike!"
