Greater Wellington is strongly advising people to stay away from all regional parks for the next 36 hours, due to the regional state of emergency and weather warnings currently in place.
The advice is in place to protect public safety during severe weather conditions affecting the Wellington Region, including the risk of flooding, high winds, slips, and falling debris. People are strongly advised not to enter parks, even if conditions appear calm, as serious hazards may not be obvious.
For safety reasons, campers are being turned away from all Greater Wellington campgrounds until further notice.
Greater Wellington staff are focused on supporting the regional emergency response and will begin inspections once conditions improve.
