Discover coastal heritage and wild landscapes at Ōrua-pouanui/Baring Head
Join us for a guided walk through the dramatic coastal landscapes of Ōrua-pouanui/Baring Head, where nature, history, and science meet. Located on the remote edge of Raukawa Moana/Cook Strait, this walk offers sweeping views over Te Whanganui-a-Tara/Wellington Harbour and takes you through regenerating native bush, WWII relics, and rare windswept ecosystems.
Local guides will lead you to the heritage-listed lighthouse complex and NIWA’s Atmospheric Research Station—normally closed to the public—sharing stories of the land’s cultural and ecological significance along the way.
