Dive into Taputeranga Marine Reserve

Dive into Taputeranga Marine Reserve with Mountains to Sea Wellington for a free snorkel Seaweed Fest 2025 [loverimurimu.org/festival]. Join us to discover what’s hidden beneath the blue and meet some fishy friends!  

Beginners welcome! We provide all the necessary gear and experienced guides to ensure your safety and enjoyment in the water. Participants just need to be at least eight years old and confident swimmers. Those under sixteen must be accompanied by an adult. 

Registrations open at 9.45am - come down to book a snorkel time for the day- spots may fill up quickly. Bring your togs, towel, refreshments and make a day of it exploring the activities and environment at Taputeranga Marine Reserve.  

Seaweed Fest Stalls:

Love Rimurimu Zone & Festival Merch: Chat with the Love Rimurimu Team, meet some of our native seaweeds, and get your festival merch! 

Kapu Tī: Look for the GWRC tent on the day and come by for a cuppa and a kōrero with the team 

Make a Cyanotype:  Learn how to make a cyanotype (a print using a light-based technique) and take home a special seaweed memento

Seaweed Stall:  Engage your senses and try on your next treasure. From carefully curated rongoā to hand sculpted and sand-casted jewelry, view creations infused with inspiration from the sea.

To get to Taputeranga Marine Reserve

We encourage attendees to leave cars at home and use alternative transport where possible. Locals- please come on foot or bring along your bikes/ scooters! For those further afield, the number 1 bus drops you right to the event from the Wellington Train Station. Map your journey.
